Second ETCMA symposium - Details

Event
when: 17.11.2006
Event title Second ETCMA symposium
Where: Brighton - Brighton
Category: Conventions

Event description:

The European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association warmly invites you to its second symposium to be held in Brighton, UK from 17-19 November 2006.

Most European governments are currently establishing frameworks for the regulation and registration of complementary therapies. Governments have a responsibility to make sure that complementary therapists are well qualified, ethical and safe; In addition the widespread use and popularity of more traditional therapies and medicines has forced them to take a more proactive role in the recognition of complementary medicine practitioners.

Each country is developing systems which relate to the particular circumstances governing their own healthcare arrangements. They have to take account of the concerns and demands of different powerful groups and this poses the ever-present challenge of how representative consultation processes really are and whether the right people are making the decisions affecting complementary medicine.

How binding are the decisions that individual governments make when they also have to relate to European law? When does European law take precedence over national law?
Are the right people with the appropriate expertise on the right committees?

This symposium aims to answer some of these questions by looking at how European parliamentary institutions work, how we can influence them and how we can make sure that appropriate representation takes place.

Our speakers, representing different complementary therapies, have extensive experience of working within European institutions from a number of varying perspectives. They will help us understand how Europe 'works'.

PROGRAMME

The symposium will begin with an informal dinner on the evening of Friday 17 November, and end with a farewell lunch on Sunday 19 November.

On Saturday morning the speakers will give a number of presentations, followed by workshops in the afternoon. There will be a plenary session on Sunday morning when all the speakers will answer questions and discuss your particular areas of interest.

The whole event, symposium, meals and accommodation, will be housed in one venue, providing plenty of space and time for informal discussion and meeting.
