What are the benefits of membership to my organization?

How we help our members

  • As PR agency
We continually lobby to get TCM therapies included in Europe’s national health systems, and covered by social and private insurance companies.
  • As an information network
We hold a wealth of experience that we share for the benefit of every member. From informal meet ups to news letters, special events and forum discussions.
  • As a quality standard for education and practition
We develop the accreditation systems for Traditional Chinese Medicine education within Europe for both proficient professional practice, and the practice of different TCM therapies. With these comparable accreditation systems we create freedom of movement for practitioners across Europe.
  • As an aid to academic growth and research
We aim to strengthen international academic exchange and assist academic collaboration with European colleges and universities. We promote scientific research into the safety, validity, usefulness, and efficacy of TCM therapies.
  • As a lobbying agency
We lobby for the common interests of our members by getting a voice on relevant EU committees and forums concerned with complementary therapies. This way we can inform and educate decision makers on policy and provision, with particular reference to TCM therapies.

Who are the other members?

The ETCMA represents currently over 20 member organisations. You find our members at Find a member.

What level of training do the practitioners in the association have to undertake?

In 2011 members of the ETCMA began to discuss creating minimum educational criteria for membership of the ETCMA.

After the ETCMA General Assembly in Feb 2013, we decided to adopt minimum educational criteria for entry to the ETCMA. They are based on the minimum standards of education necessary to produce an acupuncture or TCM practitioner capable of independent practice, who is safe, ethical and competent.

New member organisations have a time limit of 5 years to reach the ETCMA minimal educational criteria.
