Ministra de Sanidad, Consumo y Bienestar Social

My name is Andrea Thorpe and I have been licensed in Chinese medicine for the past 25 years. I am Spanish born and obtained my professional titles and accreditations by completing two 4 year degree courses in Chinese Medicine in both England and the United States. I am currently completing a Doctoral degree at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine; this program is an accredited doctoral program in the US. I write to you in regard to your plans to expel what you term pseudo-therapies from the Spanish National health system in which you have included Acupuncture. Before I go into details of why I consider this a major mistake

    CAM Spain

    Support CAM in Spain

    Published on December 07 2018

    Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As you might have heard, the situation in Spain is particularly critical. We risk a complete ban of all CAM in that country, including acupuncture, even for health professionals.

Let us react as a European community to prevent heavy consequences in Spain and other EU countries.

ETCMA’s EC  has decided to support a private practitioner’s petition on WECHANGE as illustrated below, but we cannot do anything without you.

It’s urgent. The impact depends not only on how many people sign it but also on the time in which signatures are collected.

Please ask your members to sign this petition immediately and to spread it among their contacts. Let’s make it viral.

Other initiatives may follow but let’s start with this one.

    I’m grateful for your support

    September 2018

    Published on September 17 2018

It was in conjunction with the TCM Congress in Rothenburg 2015 we gathered at a Nordic meeting for the first time. The purpose of the meeting was to try to find closer cooperation between our five Nordic countries. We noted at this meeting that we are relatively similar in terms of education and development in our countries. We are also relatively similar in terms of regulatory regulations and accreditation.
In the discussion we were told that Norway the year before had introduced an acupuncture day.

    “So, how does acupuncture work?”

By Mel Hopper Koppelman, DAc, MSc, MSc

Everyday in practice, we see our patients achieve amazing results with the help of our treatments. That said, many of us have been trained using models such as TCM, Zang Fu, and Five Elements that are completely foreign to the cultures in which we live and practice. As such, there’s a growing awareness of the need to be able to explain our treatments and results in biomedical terms. We need to be able to answer the question: “So, how does acupuncture work?” in a way that will make sense to the asker.

In the 5th WHO forum “Update on ICD-11 TM Chapter development” Dr Stéphane Espinosa gave an account of the different phases of the ICD-11 development and the significance of the implementation phase starting in June 2018. The platform for Field Implementation assessment was also described and seems an excellent tool for educational and professional development to get familiarized with the coding process and the future benefits in applications such as adverse events reporting or reimbursement, as Stéphane explained. The development of the International Classification of Health Interventions also looks very promising.
