In November 2018 a meeting between a chinese delegation of different associations of chinese TCM doctors coordinated by the Chinese embassador, the department of ecomonics (SECO) and several Swiss federal departments of Health care (BAG, SRK, etc) and the TCM Fachverband Schweiz as well as ASA (TCM Association of Swiss medical doctors) took place.
The CAM Inquiry

In April 2017, the Swedish government appointed a special investigator to explore several issues concerning “care and treatment other than that conducted in the established care”. The inquiry was titled The CAM Inquiry, CAM being the abbreviation of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. In July 2018, the inquiry received an additional task to review the paragraph of the Patient Safety Act that concerns treatment by non-licensed therapists (formerly “the quackery law”) (a law which have not existed in Sweden since 1969 SATCMs comment.) and the accompanying penal provisions.

I am not sure how many of you may be aware, but the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it is considering adding coverage of acupuncture for chronic low back pain. From now until February 14, it is accepting public comments and that includes information on research and both formal position statements from professional societies and professional society guidelines regarding acupuncture for chronic low back pain. They also look for expert opinions as part of their research process.

As you might have heard, the situation in Spain is particularly critical. We risk a complete ban of all CAM in that country, including acupuncture, even for health professionals.
Let us react as a European community to prevent heavy consequences in Spain and other EU countries.
ETCMA’s EC has decided to support a private practitioner’s petition on WECHANGE as illustrated below, but we cannot do anything without you.
It’s urgent. The impact depends not only on how many people sign it but also on the time in which signatures are collected.
Please ask your members to sign this petition immediately and to spread it among their contacts. Let’s make it viral.

World Acupuncture Day - Program
World Acupuncture Day this one-day event, organized under the patronage of UNESCO and the WHO and taking place in the House of UNESCO in Paris, France, will bring together practitioners, researchers, politicians, academics, and administrators of all disciplines related to acupuncture and moxibustion to share their knowledge and experience.
World Acupuncture Day will demonstrate to the world that acupuncture and moxibustion are today used globally as an integral part of the world’s health systems. It is organised by WADO (World Acupuncture Day Organisation).
The celebration of the 8th anniversary and the days of scientific and cultural dialogue on acupuncture have received the support of the French and Hellenic National Commissions for UNESCO.
