Message from ETCMA's President
Dear ETCMA Members, Colleagues, & Friends,
This is certainly a time of crisis!. As I reflect upon the Chinese character used to write the word ‘crisis’, it contains two brush strokes. One brush stroke translates as danger; the other brush stroke translates as ‘opportunity’.
This is a good time to pay attention to the strength as well as the weakness of our profession. The strengths is our ‘heart’ and the ability to listen and communicate. In the ETCMA manage to meet more and communicate. The other part of the heart is the ‘love’ that we have for the medicine we are practicing.
Communication is one of the major keys of our organization! During the past few weeks, we have held a series of special meetings and have brainstormed together about how to navigate through these choppy waters. As a result, we have decided to hold another two extra GA Forum meetings where we will begin a pilot project of working in small group associations, in order to facilitate strategic planning about moving our profession forward in the face of adversity .
Like the tides at sea when the water flows out,the unseen rocks which are buried beneath are surfacing. This metaphor also points to the weaknesses that we need to address and identify in order to create a stronger profession. Times like this create opportunity and hopefully can we make sustainable changes that will help us all in the future.
In our response to the current situation with the aim to support a stronger community of associations, we are taking the following action:
- Publishing Directive Statements (For example: When Will it Be Safe to Open our Practice?) with more advisory information to come.
- Updating posts on our website to reflect the current situation and build a database of shared resources
- Creating effective small working teams of 5 associations in each team in order to address crisis issues.
- Have more frequent GA Zoom Meetings to stay closely connected.
- Creating a task force to deal with research and professional material. Establishing an objective stamp of approval so that we can feed the media and the organizations with a reliable data
We are closely observing the strengths and weaknesses of our profession and responding in order to make a stronger and more meaningful organization.
I would like to thank the EC for their hard work and support. We work as a team with one aim in mind. How can we serve the organization better and promote Chinese medicine in Europe to grow to its fullest potential, navigating the threats and making the best of our opportunities?
I am very optimistic and believe that from this crisis we will all grow stronger.
